Metal and ferroalloy powders are often used in metallurgical applications to adjust the final chemical composition of the product. Most important is iron and steel-based metallurgy, but aluminum and zinc products are also often used. In most cases the powders are included in a cored-wire or pressed into briquettes or tablets before added into the liquid melt.
